Over the past month, we’ve witnessed a heap of Anons getting v&, most notably sup_g, Kahuna and W0rmer.

The only positive to come out of these arrests is that all Anons should learn not to be so easily socially engineered from now on.  sup_g, Kahuna and W0rmer all contributed a lot to the cause and they will not be forgotten – but in spite of their talents, they left glaring clues to their identities all over the web. The feds didn’t catch them by using l33t whitehack skillz – the Anons effectively unmasked themselves.

Anyone who’s serious about remaining anonymous should learn from these indictments to avoid making the same mistakes. It doesn’t matter how good a hacker you are – if you’re DM’ing pictures of yourself to femanons, you might as well just hand yourself in to the feds now.

For future reference, these are the Anons’ fatal mistakes, as highlighted in their indictments:

Kahuna allegedly:

• Used ‘anonJB’ as one of his IRC names – JB are his real-life initials
• Continued to operate as ‘anonJB’ after being correctly doxed in September 2011: http://pastie.org/2477266
• Hacked websites using his work IP
• Had Facebook, Gmail, Twitter and YouTube accounts in his real name. These revealed his Anon sympathies IRL, including a link to an Anonymous educational video: http://www.youtube.com/user/jborell3
• Retweeted Anon accounts from his own real-life Twitter (no crime, but hardly a smart move when you’re also an Anon)
• Mentioned on IRC that his dad was a lawyer (the chat log was later leaked)
• Accessed the @ItsKahuna Twitter account on occasions using his home IP
• Tweeted news of his neighbors installing a new WEP router that he was accessing
• Tweeted as @ItsKahuna to say he was fixing his friend’s computer. The IP address this tweet was posted from matched one of his Facebook friends IRL.
• Fucked up and allowed details concerning his computer host to be revealed on air – he then DM’d KSL TV to ask for this incriminating evidence to be deleted from later broadcasts.
• DM’d pictures of his face to @anoncutie. All of Kahuna’s tweets, DMs and IP logs were later revealed when feds subpoenaed Twitter.
• Admitted in a DM to @missarahnicole the date of his 21st birthday

W0rmer allegedly:

• Posted CabinCr3w and W0rmer photos of his girlfriend’s boobs – complete with iPhone geo-data that led to her home address.
• W0rmer’s girlfriend, @MissAnonFatale, revealed in a DM to @ItsKahuna that her and W0rmer would get married once he’d arranged his passport & visa to Oz.
• W0rmer posted a screenshot of a botnet he was running. In the background, his Skype and IRC user names are clearly visible in the applications he is running
• Signed off on a forum post with the words “Higino Ochoa – AkA wOrmer” << facepalm.jpg
• Broke into Texas PD’s website using his neighbor’s wireless – but without trying to mask his IP
• His Facebook account publicly revealed that he was in a relationship with a girl in Australia. This girl could then be linked to him via the EXIF data on the Cabin Cr3w photos and by her own Anonymous Twitter account.

sup_g allegedly:

• Used various nicknames on IRC, but allowed himself to be addressed by all these nicknames in chats with Sabu, thereby linking him to all his online personas
• He regularly admitted on IRC which other nicks he used, when quizzed by others
• He gave out personally identifiable info on IRC – such as admitting that he’d had activist mates who’d been arrested at a specific demonstration. sup_g’s twin brother was one of those arrested.
• He also admitted on IRC that he’d been arrested at Republican National Convention in 2004, and confessed to having done time in federal prison

All of these Anons would still be free if they hadn’t given out so much personal information. It wasn’t failed proxy chains or Tor relays that did for them; nor was it deep packet inspection or ‘no log’ VPNs giving up logs – for the most part it was simple social engineering.

At the risk of stating the obvious: if you’re doing illegal shit online, *stay* anonymous. Delete EXIF data, delete old DMs, don’t use Facebook, don’t use Twitter without masking your IP, use an anonymous nickname that can’t be tied to your real-life identity and always assume that chats are being logged and will be published.

Greetings my children, I have been watching this but it appears no one has commented on the grand th3j35t3r’s epic fails and mistakes in his blog post “claiming” he pwned terrorists. Now, I would like you to refer to this image while we embark on a magickal train ride of fail.



So, you start out with this “highly targeted and precise attack, against known bad guys, randoms were left totally unscathed.” which is rather laughable at best. It appears only terrorists use QR codes and no innocents at all would ever out of curiosity scan it and look? You go one to claim using the “CVE-2010-1807 “ exploit and this is where the epic fail just starts. CVE advisories are numbered first by the obvious CVE prefix, the year, and the exploit number for that given year. So without even checking the advisory, you are telling me you are using a 2 year old, well known by now, and patched exploit? Do you have that such a low opinion and under-estimation of “terrorists” that they are using such outdated software and/or firmware on their “devices”? Should I mention Android devices have the ability to do updates the same as iPhones (newer versions of both can do auto updates)?

Now you claim “iPhone or Android devices” as your “known and narrow vector to exploit”. You do realize that shellcode is OS dependent AND device specific? Right…? This is like trying to force an execution of a windows program on a Tandy TRS-80, it just isn’t going to work. From your post you mention no such device detection is in place, there is nothing in the POC for this, and it just seems frankly, to be made up combination of technical terms with minimalistic grasp.

“Now for the really clever bit…” I almost peed myself at what was next, this is just pure fail on levels I am personally unable to express in words, but we shall try, oh we shall try. Netcat is unable to handle multiple simultaneous connections and it is not in any way a automated tool. Honestly, it would be more believable if you coded your own automated tool to download the phone’s data than this story. Netcat is far from an optimal tool to pull this rather outlandish story that smells rather bad off. So this is the magic command the shell code runs “nc -v -l -p 37337 -e “/bin/cat /etc/motd”". He implies he has a super secret script running in place of printing the motd command. This, as he gives as an example, but he obviously did not read his manual. This would require a “-L” for a persistent connection, assuming he didn’t do “while [1] do jester_elite_netcat_command done”, which he does seem to imply he used. This also assumes that he will not take too long downloading his data from the devices possibly missing some other probably innocent persons cell phone data. I am not knowledgeable as to how such data is stored on such devices, but I have doubts over coding such a script to do the performed functions. This would require extensive research into all the major twitter clients and associated software, not to mention the the email clients, etc.

There is also the issue of the information possibly being stored in binary data and the availability of text processing commands on a embedded device. Then there is how do you extract data from binary data on a restricted/embedded system… The only optimal solution is a native executable installed to the device to do the dirty work, and multiple versions for compatibility/architecture. Either way you look at it, this is a very non-optimized method, and is prone to intelligence being lost.

I don’t really see the proof of concept taking a 2 year old CVE advisory, and exploiting people in mass with it. This rather reminds me of doing the same things the guys you claim fight would do, hypocritical much? How do you define the “bad guys”? How do you know they are “bad”? You seem to imply by listing “Anonymous Members” in the bunch that all anonymous people or related to “leak YOUR information , steal YOUR CC nums, and engage in terror plots around the world”. Are you that bigoted and single minded to classify all anons as credit card stealing terrorists? Granted I am not a fan or support anonymous but I not that full of blind bigoted hate.

This is based on irc.2600.net chats in #jester using an CTCP finger to obtain an user name. The chance that this user is the actual Jester is very likely because of the following two things:

* The time of when I set the HoneyPot #jester was +i only.
* Server logs of attacks matches with his XerXes script

The user in target is:

The funny thing is after he quits from IRC he gives an sign out message + host mask of:

If you do a reverse IP of 204.84.33.105 it belongs to the "North Carolina Research and Education Network". An previous CTCP finger for the PashaPasta user name pointed it out to be "thejesterrace87". The "~" in the ident on IRC means two things, he is using SSH through work to tunnel into IRC.2600.NET or he is using HTTP proxy to connect to IRC.2600.NET.

A quick Google of the user finger revealed the following sites:

Here is what I then did. I set up a HoneyPot (hardened Apache with DDOS protection turn on). The site was "http://www.rjfront.info". On 28 August, 2011. I logged onto IRC.2600.NET channel #jester and requested that the "ANTI-JIHAD" site would be taken down. With-in 45 minutes, the server was hit with HTTP HEAD partial fragmentation attacks. The server was completly down in 3 minutes for up to 5 hours.

The Apache logs revealed the following headers:

Also at the same time th3j35t3r posts on Twitter the following message "th3j35t3r Robin Sage - www.rjfront.info - TANGO DOWN. Temporarily. For online incitement to cause young muslims to carry out acts of violent jihad. 28 Aug"

What was interesting was the the sequence of IP's that were rotated. They were TOR exit relays. After doing a bit of research on the type of attack agaist te HoneyPot was an attacked called "Keep-Alive DoS Script": http://www.esrun.co.uk/blog/keep-alive-dos-script/. The CPU utilization on the Apache server was 95% throughout the attack.

Remember it is illegal to perform denial of service attacks agaist websites. The individual known as th3j35t3r needs to be held responsible for his actions. If you cannot do the crime, do not do the crime.

Our thoughts on "The Jester",

It seems people misunderstand this rather bland and seemingly schizophrenic individual, so let's inform everyone (in our own opinion) what he's about.

It appears The Jester runs his online campaign much like Lulz Security - he has a website of sorts where he documents his progress, and a healthy twitter feed. Sometimes he uses pastebin to release statements and information. Sounds pretty identical, huh? Apart from one crucial difference: delivery.

Jester's campaign has been ongoing for over 18 months. Our campaign has been ongoing for 2 months. Aside from using a "homemade" DoS tool to down several tiny Jihad websites for 30 minutes at a time (sometimes operating so slowly that he only hits one per week), Jester doesn't seem to have done much else.

We'll not brag too much of our accomplishments, as they speak for themselves on our releases page. 2 months of mayhem with more to come - we declared war on the police and hundreds of internal police documents are released in the same week. 'Nuff said.

Jester has declared war on terrorism for 18 months, but we're not seeing a single scrap of insider terrorist information on his twitter or blog. As far as we can tell, there have been zero real terrorists apprehended or harmed in any way because of Jester. If anything, Jester's extremely limited attacks are only giving more attention to sites nobody would know existed if he didn't try to DoS them. He's probably responsible for training more terrorists than stopping existing ones.

So what's his reasoning behind these pointless and limited hits? Jester claims to only hit them temporarily so that they "filter" "terrorists" to other "terrorist" websites, "herding" them all into one place so that law enforcement can scoop them up. Four words: what the fuck, schizo.

If we declared war on obese people, hitting local state Pizza Hut websites for 30 minutes at a time isn't going to filter the fatties to Burger King websites for herding... it also isn't going to make fat people think twice about eating at Pizza Hut, because, much like terrorist training grounds, Pizza Hut is a physical place where people can walk into. And sometimes out of, with a full belly or bomb strapped to their asses. Sometimes both!

Jester seems pretty bored with his campaign; after 18 months of doing nothing it must drag out. His first ever tweet was so full of vigor - it even said "PWNED" in it, nice and big in those glorious, anti-terrorist caps. And now his ambitions are so dead that he has to jump on the current trends to get attention; WikiLeaks, Westboro Baptist Church, even us over at Lulz Security. Hell, we've only existed for 2 months, and this pastebin is going to get more views and publicity for Jester than everything he's had since 2009 combined. Maybe this will encourage actual anti-terrorist folks to do something useful? We don't approve of those bomb-tossers much either, despite explosions being pretty.

But don't worry folks, this won't affect our man Jester at all, for the master hacker doesn't just stop at DoS. Oh my, no... he also claims to engage in secret cyberwarfare ranging from "social engineering to SQLi", so hide your kids and your curtains, because surely after 18 months straight he must have an extreme cache of anti-terror material to unleash havoc upon Jihadists around the world.

Me? griefer?
Internet is infact very serious business. I take it very seriously. Along with my games, i'v been accused of wallhacking on innumerable occasions and even banned for it. I don't have it in me to be a griefer/cheater. I hate pissing other people off, my friends know me and love me for my humanitarianism. You got three innocent people on one of those lists. And Sykranos is some spanish name, you're going to find a lot of profile links that are not actually mine. Also good job on finding that name, surely it's actually real, because everyone today has names from the bible. Look a little harder, try Russian CC sharing forums. My DoX was posted on one of those!
Also update your "10 most viewed" list shit, it's broken. There's no way people search my SteamID as often as it says it does, I am inactive and rarely play.
